We have all been "Wowed" by an absolutely incredible vivid hair color on Instagram--what you may not realize as you scroll through the images like a pastel-hungry savage--is the time and money going into it. Most stylists charge hourly for these services at an average rate of 100.00 per hour--and the services typically take a minimum of 4-6 hours depending on the stylist. 400.00 to 600.00 dollars on a vivid color is a low to average price range.
YOU MAY BE THINKING, THATS BANANAS!
But its the reality, and here is why...
Any time you get a fantasy color you are actually getting two full color services back to back.
This is what it looks like in a basic step-by-step:
Lighten hair to a level 9*
Process (20-55 min)
Treat + Rinse
Blow dry
Apply Vivid Color
Process (20-30 min)
Rinse again
Blowout + Style
*Level 9 = pale yellow, or in scientific terms, the color of the inside of a banana
This breakdown looks simple, but steps 1-3 alone are extremely time and labor intensive--and will probably take anywhere from 2.5-4 hours alone!
The reason being that for vivid colors to look great, the hair must be as as light and even as possible. To do this well and safely--it takes patience and expertise. (See Blonding and Foilyage) *Insert finger wagging here* It is also absolutely crucial that you follow the recommended aftercare that your stylist gives you--that sh*t actually works!
